Oh, he did his best make their (people) short lives miserable, because that was his job, but nothing he could think up was half as bad as the stuff they thought up themselves. They seemed to have a talent for it. It was built into the design, somehow. They were born into a world that was against them in a thousand little ways, and then devoted most of their energies to making it worse.
크롤리는 사람들을 삻을 끔찍하게 만드는게 자신의 일인 만큼 최선을 다했다. 하지만 크롤리가 생각해내는 방법들은 인간들이 스스로 생각해내는 일들에 비하면 그렇게 나쁜일들도 아니었다. 인간들은 그에 관련되 재능을 가지고 있는것 같았는데 어떻게 보면 그렇게 디자인되어진 것 같다. 인간들은 여러가지 다양한 방법으로 서로를 괴롭히도록 태어났으며 상황을 더 끔찍하게 만드는데 자신들의 삶을 바치곤 했다.
